We design the digital future.
Data centers are the backbone of an increasingly digital world. And the demands on their design are increasingly complex: Energy is becoming a bottleneck, power densities are growing, location is a strategic decision, and maximum possible availability and time to market are competitive factors.
We take an integrated approach to redundancy, modularity, and scalability, as well as heat recovery, future readiness, and potential refits—from day one and throughout the entire lifecycle.

The factors that determine the success of a data center
The impact of early decisions continues long after the completion of a data center. They determine its performance, cost efficiency, and adaptability over many years.
-
A site isn’t automatically a data center location.
The right location is essential for the feasibility and efficiency of a data center. The cost and availability of electricity, network connectivity, amount of available space, zoning, and ease of approval are central factors. We evaluate these parameters during the feasibility phase, in order to create a robust basis for the ongoing development of the project.
-
Time is becoming a competitive factor.
The time required for approval, planning, procurement, and execution determine the competitive advantage of a project and these factors have to be coordinated at an early stage. Integrated, BIM-supported design and modular concepts simplify this coordination process, accelerate decision-making, and ensure faster implementation.
-
Availability is non-negotiable.
The energy supply, cooling, security requirements, and building structure must work as an integrated system. This is why we address redundancies, technical performance, and reliability holistically from day one in order to obtain the required classification from the Uptime Institute (TIER 1–4)—for a permanently reliable operation that meets all the client’s requirements.
-
Flexibility determines the fitness for the future.
Higher power densities, extreme AI-driven load profiles, and new energy-efficiency and heat-recovery requirements are constantly transforming data centers. Modular concepts, the potential for expansion, and the adaptability of technical systems are becoming key design parameters. Future-proof concepts enable us to expand capacities as required and flexibly adapt to changing parameters.
Full Service Design: From feasibility to the operational start.
The design of data centers requires rapid decision-making and the cooperation of all disciplines. We bring together all relevant consultants, specialist designers, and data center experts in a single team—either as the leader of the planning process or as the planning partner of a general contractor.
-
Test-fits, feasibility studies, and masterplans as a solid basis for making decisions related to one of the earliest and most consequential project milestones.
-
The structured evaluation of technical risk on the basis of an in-depth location analysis, coupled with financial due diligence—for increased planning certainty and lower project risk from the earliest phases of the project.
-
Architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, and building management system engineering, the tender and tender award, construction management, and building physics, all from a single source, enhanced by specialist data center expertise and BIM-based processes. This integrated coordination stretches from design to implementation and commissioning and ensures the quality and functionality of complex technical systems.
-
The coordination of the implementation and commissioning of complex technical systems with a focus on quality, functionality, and compatible interfaces. This integrated support of the entire process up to commissioning ensures that the design and execution remain aligned throughout.
-
The adaptation of existing data centers in line with growing power densities, new technical requirements, and changing end-user structures—including the targeted reuse of existing infrastructure and maintenance of ongoing operations.
-
BIM links the architecture, the structural and building services engineering, and the equipment in a consistent information model. Dependencies and interfaces are coordinated across the disciplines; and the consistent data basis also supports the operation, maintenance, and subsequent adaptation of the building.
-
Energy efficiency, sustainability, and lifecycle costs flow into the planning process at an early stage. This ensures that regulatory requirements are addressed from day one—and that the data center remains cost-efficient over the long term. Taxonomy advice, including certification in line with a range of green-building certification systems (LEED, BREEAM, DGNB, ÖGNI)—all from a single source.
20+ years’ experience. From colocation—via hyperscale—to the data center campus.
Digital Realty Paukerwerkstraße, Vienna (AT)
A data center with four new cubes is being fully integrated into the existing campus as part of the urban development project TwentyOne. It is adding 40 MW of extra IT capacity for new end users.
Daimler AIZ/RZ, Sindelfingen (DE)
The data center is designed for high availability and phased growth. Modular, inherently redundant cooling units ensure reliable climate control and can be expanded without affecting ongoing operations. The highly complex combination of engine testing facilities and a fully separate, upper-level data center was awarded an Industrial Building Prize in 2018.
A1/IBM Next Generation Data Center, Vienna (AT)
This was the first data center in Austria to be granted Tier III TCDD certification. The flexible layout means that system rooms can be expanded during ongoing operations without affecting existing plant. Electricity is 100 percent supplied from renewable sources.
InterXion ZUR3, Zurich (CH)
With a capacity of 24 MW on four levels, ZUR3 is InterXion’s largest and most powerful data center to date. It is rigorously focused on energy efficiency and saving resources. Exhaust heat of up to 18 MW can be fed into the local energy network.
KBC Data Centers 1 & 2, Törökbalint and Baracska (HU)
The two identical ICT complexes at two different locations are amongst ATP’s earliest data center projects. Office and logistics areas have modular connections to the data centers, permitting the clear separation between and expansion of the functions.
